  Steve's Letter, 2001.

Tapestry
November 2001
In my time I have been called many things

Tapestry passed away while traveling with his boyfriend Steve in Steve's homeland of Ireland in September 2001. He went to the hospital with a cough that quickly worsened and he was unable to fight it off.

Up until that point, he had mostly been in good health and had never gotten on a medication regimen. His quick decline was very much a surprise.

For some reason Tapestry and I always ran into each other randomly, I still remember distinctly the last time I saw him, before their trip. I was riding at night on a nearly empty bus in San Francisco. He snuck up behind me trying to scare me, but with his enormous grin spread across his face. We spent the rest of the ride catching up, him excitedly telling me about his upcoming trip abroad, and that's the man I'll always remember.

Steve's First Letter:

November 2001

Dear Meredyth,

Where to begin? Thank you I guess is the first thing that springs to mind; thank you for your warm and very welcome letter. Of course I remember you from that day at 16th and Valencia; I remember feeling slightly embarrassed that Tapestry want to show you the photos, as I'm in some compromising positions in some of them, but he was just so proud of them that it made my heart smile to see him want to share them with you.

My apologies for the delay in my response. Things have been all kinds of crazy this end- I received your letter one month ago today.... That same day my father, who had been sick for a couple of weeks, died. That was exactly one month after Tapestry passed away, which was two months ago today. Finding words to express what I've been going through since then is next to impossible, but I got to hold both Tapestry and my father in my arms and tell them how much I love them as they left this world, and for that I will be eternally grateful.
