Tapestry, 2000.

Tapestry
from a conversation taped May 11, 2000

People are still being infected. What's not being talked about? We're not giving people the right information. Why is HIV still around? Damn it! Adults need to let go of the idea that youth "should be" a certain way and start saying to them, "These are your choices."

When I die that's going to be smacked on my urn. "Tapestry, here lies a boy for choice." We can't afford not to tell people the truth. Recognizing the truth is relative.

My truth is knowing that in whatever way I can be there for anybody in my life to help them, to support them, I'm going to. If not for those people who did the same for me, I probably wouldn’t be here. My truth is that I'm excited about life even though I'm really really scared. My truth is that like Grace Jones said, “this is all of me.” I have to live with me whether I like it or not. Hopefully, I'm going to help somebody else along the way. In a strange way, I know a lot of this has helped me.

I have to live with me whether I like it or not. Hopefully, I'm going to help somebody else along the way.
